Presents:
What is a Mimouna and How it is celebrated?
Moroccan Jews celebrate the famed final night of Passover as a Mimouna. The festivities continue until the following day, at sunset. This well-loved holiday that begins at the conclusion of another Jewish holiday, is a ‘segulah for parnassa’ or a blessing for money and good health. Jewish Sephardic families host massive amounts of guests; being friends and community members, during this festive event.
Featured foods at this event include; assorted Moroccan honey pastries, cakes, butter, milk, honey, jams, and the well-loved delectable Moroccan crepes, known as Mufleta. During Passover leavened bread is prohibited. This event highlights the great distinction between Passover and the rest of the year; by offering grand delicacies that are extremely leavened and grandiosity decorated.
Mimouna is the time to heighten one’s happiness and to celebrate great blessings for good fortune and health for the Spring season and for the rest of the year. The foods are eaten symbolize fertility, happiness, abundance, success, health, wealth, prosperity, and community.
